Social Responsibility

Our vision is to open doors and encourage contact to be able to bring the “Other South Africa” closer to you. This is the best way to expose you to important elements of our wonderful “Rainbow Nation” including the Xhosa, Zulu and Ndebele cultures and to better understand their rituals and daily challenges.

Especially for Incentive Groups and Conferences, we offer numerous opportunities for meaningful and long-lasting engagement and involvement in the country and it’s people. It is our vision and motivation that underprivileged families, especially children are left with a ray of sunlight after your visit to them. Be it interactive through the building of an Adventure Playground (Plus-minus 3 hrs) at a crèche, or the establishment of a Computer School. Alternatively, we arrange the manufacture of desperately-needed school uniforms and have them delivered to “Container” schools. Or with your support, we organize Christmas presents for Aids children e.g. at last own a pair of shoes!!

With the advent of the 2010 Soccer World Cup (Most of SA’s population is soccer crazy!), small sponsored soccer tournaments between local teams is a perfect framework to establish contact on the sporting front. We all know what positives sport can achieve! But even smaller actions and ideas are meaningful and enthuse the participants: The performing of Afro-Jazz artists, a Marimba band from the Townships, or perhaps the purchase of a lovingly made bead-and-wire product as a farewell present?

On request we arrange individual Township tours with trained local guides during which Community Projects chosen along the way are visited and where in-depth information and background to township life can be gleaned. Should you be interested, these tours can be linked in your travel schedule with a visit to the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg or the District Six Museum in Cape Town where you will gain further insight into South Africa’s very recent Apartheid past. An emotion-stirring visit to the previous political prison on Robben Island should then definitely not be missed to fully appreciate Nelson Mandela’s life’s work and stupendous achievements!

Talk to us, as we will surely find the suitable contact-point for social investment, tailored specifically to your Group or Private Holiday’s “golden thread”.

THAT'S AFRICA is proud to support „Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa“!

Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) is a non-profit organisation that promotes sustainable tourism development. They do this through awareness raising, research and advocacy, capacity building and by facilitating the world’s first tourism Fair Trade certification programme.

FTTSA awards the use of a special label to qualifying businesses as a way of signifying their commitment to Fair Trade criteria including fair wages and working conditions, fair purchasing, fair operations, equitable distribution of benefits and respect for human rights, culture and environment.

By electing to stay at or use the services of an FTTSA-certified establishment, you are assured that your journey benefits local communities and economies, and that the business is operated ethically and in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
