Mozambique

Mozambique, a still largely untouched paradise on the Indian Ocean, is a country full of fascinating landscapes: 2700 Km of pristine and dream-like beaches, traditional villages… spiced with a Mediterranean flavour, stylish hotels in the harbour- and capital city Maputo. Although Mozambique has been independent since 1975, Fado-songs and delightful seafood (the prawns are world famous!), still remind of the recent Portuguese colonial times. Portuguese is still the official language, with English and French also widely spoken. Mozambique covers an area of 800 000km2 and has only 20 mio. Inhabitants, of which 1.2 mio. live in Maputo.

Situated on the South-Eastern coast of Africa, Mozambique has persevered through its colonial past and civil war and is emerging from its past to once again stake its claim as one of the jewels of Africa.

The endless palm-fringed coastline is washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and graced with long white beaches, excellent coral reefs and strings of pristine islands. The idyllic Bazaruto archipelago, off the coast of Inhambane province, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, consisting of four main islands that make up one of the most beautiful places on the continent. The islands offer a exclusive tropical getaway, with shaded beaches and a marine park offering outstanding diving and snorkelling opportunities. Chic resort hotels and lodges offer a paradise of swimming in crystal-clear, warm turquoise water, scuba-diving, deep sea fishing and relaxing on kilometer-long sandy beaches - spectacular sunsets are of course part of the package! Dive into a magical world of rare sea turtles and dugongs, dolphins, whales, whale-sharks and Manta ray… this too is Africa!
